A Comment on the President's Visit

Anyone who knows me, understands very well that I do not like George W. Bush, his politics, ideologies, and that I did not vote for him -- either time.

While waiting for the President's appearance the other day, a woman asked me if I voted for him, and I told her, "No, I did not." And she asked, "Then why are you here? You should make a stand!" To which I replied, "I'm an American, and he's the President of the United States of America, and I have taken a stand." (By the way, she's the woman in the second video giving the thumbs-up gesture to the motorcade).

It was quite obvious to me, that she'll never comprehend that one can detest the President's politics, yet remain a patriotic American who respects the office of the President of the United States.

It is not everyday that a "regular" person like me, has the opportunity to see the President. The last time I saw a President, was when Gerald Ford was on the campaign trail. He came through Carlinville, IL on the train; it was an exciting event. I did not vote for him either.

Having the President and Mrs. Bush staying overnight in the hotel across the street from me is something most people can't claim. It was exciting, dammit, and I wanted to record it for myself!

Well put Diana ! You capture the thoughts of many with your comments regarding patriotism ! Being in a far away place would surely have you become excited with such a huge reminder of your homeland so near. Congratulations on seizing the moment and celebrating the United States President regardless of your politics.
