Cocktails are Fun, but Insurance Companies Suck!
Last week, I took a cocktail-mixology class at this new place (at least it's new to me) called Palate Sensations with our friend, Alex. It's just across the street from the Col-Bar. Anyway, we learned how to make Mojitos, Margaritas, "James Bond" martinis, B52's, and Singapore Slings. By the time the class was finished 3 1/2 hours later, I had a bit of a buzz. Not too much of one because I'm not into sweet drinks much. I did learn a lot, and I plan to take more classes starting with the Basic Cooking Skills. I need to learn more wok-rocking skills. Mmmm-hmmm!
So, the start of my week was fun and interesting. It went downhill fast after Tuesday. I realized after doing my usual work-out on the elliptical that I still wasn't better. I went back to the doctor, and he decided that I needed a complete physical with all of the usual blood tests, etc. He also had me go for an ultra-sound and a series of x-rays to be sure that my kidneys were ok.
Hence, no real blog material for the week. I just felt like crap and couldn't think of anything fun to write. I am on the mend now, and actually worked out today with no problems afterward. All of my tests came back OK.
After all of these doctor visits, tests, x-rays, it came time for me to work on the insurance claims. I went online to our insurer (United HealthCare) to see if any of our previous claims had been paid. That was stupid of me... of course, they hadn't been paid! In May we were finally reimbursed for claims with dates of service back to November 2006.
My WHH emailed an advocate who helped us get the money due us last year (even though it took 6 months) to tell her we needed her help again. I'd faxed claims in May and July, but still nothing was on their website. The advocate, who has been extremely helpful and quite patient, came back with UHC's statement that they had NEVER received my faxes.
I.HATE.INSURANCE.COMPANIES!
I think I'll leave it at that for today.

OK so I lied...
Oh yeah, I forgot about that one!
I can't decide what's worse, the being sick or dealing with the insurance claims afterwards :P Glad your tests were all ok :)
Hi, Diana! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
Seems we have more than being blonde in common. I've also been having kidney/bladder pain (really bad) and am having surgery on my bladder in a couple of weeks.
Have you tried OTC analgesics for the urinary tract? Like AZO Standard or Uristat? I'm allergic to them but they work REALLY good for "normal" people. :)
There's also prescription Prosed, which I'm on now (along with Vicodin and an antibiotic).
Hope you feel better soon! So nice to meet you!
HTS -- You're so right! It should NOT be this way.
ABB -- I'm sorry to hear that you're going to need surgery. It sounds like you've had it much worse than me. Thank you for stopping by, and thank you for all of the information. I'm hoping that I won't need it!
