Ang Mo Kio, Singapore

Michael and I were invited to attend an open house for the pharmacist who works at Dr. Tan's. She and her husband recently purchased an HDB (Housing Development Board) flat in Ang Mo Kio. She invited us because Michael helped them with his employee's discount to buy a 42" flat screen TV. I wish I'd taken a picture of them standing proudly in front of their new TV.

They had massive quantities of food for everyone: rice, noodles, spicy chicken wings, steamed peppers and onions with chilis, mini eclairs, and a ginger/honey dessert "soup". We were invited for Day 2 of the open house on Sunday along with 40 other friends and family. In a few weeks, they'll host another open house for his friends and family.

Their home is quite spacious with three bedrooms, a very nice kitchen, large dining area open to the living room, and the marble floors look like brand-new even though this HDB is an older one. The government is currently upgrading some of the buildings with lifts. Their building does have a lift, but it only goes to floors 6 and 12. To get to their flat, we took the lift to the 6th floor, then walked to the end of the building to take stairs to the 7th floor.
